Giving Furniture a Second Life to Protect Our Planet
Change your Decor
Not the Planet
Deja Decor is a secure, fun managed resale store where people buy and sell quality pre‑owned furniture with the ease of buying new—escrow‑protected payments, anonymous handoffs, and professional pickup‑and‑delivery—so great pieces skip the landfill and get loved twice.
Imagine a World Without New Production
Déjà Décor was born from a shared passion for interior design and an unwavering commitment to saving the planet. We believe every piece of furniture - wooden table, metal chair, leather sofa - originates from Earth’s precious resources. By extending each item’s life, we honour the planet while creating stylish, ever-evolving homes
We make second‑hand feel first‑choice by rescuing great furniture and handling the hard parts: payments, privacy, and delivery, so you don’t have to.
Where It Began
Déjà Décor started with a simple frustration.
Every move, renovation, or life change creates the same problem: great furniture that still has years left — but nowhere good to go. Selling it feels risky and exhausting. Giving it away feels wasteful. Throwing it out feels wrong.
We kept asking the same question:
Why is it easier to buy new furniture than to responsibly pass along what already exists?
Behind every sofa on the curb is a story we’ve seen too many times — time pressure, awkward meetups, ghosted messages, safety concerns, and logistics that don’t fit real life.
Déjà Décor was born from the belief that furniture deserves better.
And so do the people trying to move it along.
Our Mission
Change Your Décor — Not the Planet.
Déjà Décor exists to rescue great furniture from landfill by making second-hand buying and selling feel as easy, safe, and satisfying as buying new.
We do this by handling the hard parts:
protected payments, privacy-first handoffs, and scheduled delivery — so furniture can move smoothly from one home to the next.
Every piece on Déjà Décor is meant to be loved twice.
And every fee exists to support that rescue — not to fuel overproduction.
No guilt.
No greenwashing.
Just better systems.
Why Pre-Loved Matters
The reality is simple — and uncomfortable.
We’ve already made more furniture than we need.
Solid wood. Skilled craftsmanship. Thoughtful design.
Too much of it gets discarded not because it’s broken — but because replacing it is easier than rehoming it.
Choosing pre-loved furniture isn’t about settling.
It’s about choosing character over mass production.
Longevity over urgency.
Reuse over repetition.
Every time furniture finds a new home, one less piece needs to be manufactured, shipped, and discarded.
That’s not about being perfect.
It’s about being intentional.
Less landfill.
More life left in the things we already have.
How Déjà Décor Is Different
Déjà Décor is not classifieds.
And it’s not traditional consignment.
It’s a managed resale marketplace, built for trust.
That means:
- No cash transactions or awkward meetups
- Protected payments that move only when the furniture does
- Privacy-first handoffs — addresses aren’t shared publicly
- Delivery handled by professionals, not strangers
- Clear standards for photos, condition, and dimensions
Second-hand shouldn’t feel uncertain or chaotic.
It should feel considered, reliable, and well-designed.
That’s the experience we’re building.
Our Values
We don’t believe in vague promises.
These values show up in how Déjà Décor actually works.
Rescue-first
We prioritize keeping great furniture in circulation — not pushing new production.
Transparency
No hidden fees. No vague policies. If something goes wrong, we explain it in plain language.
Trust by design
Safety and privacy aren’t features — they’re built into the system.
Quality over volume
We care more about what belongs on the platform than how much is on it.
Community, not extraction
Déjà Décor is built to support sellers, buyers, and local partners — not squeeze them.
Meet the founders
Déjà Décor was founded by Geneviève Faubert and Mélanie Kau — two builders with very different paths, united by the same conviction:
good design, when paired with the right systems, can radically reduce waste without asking people to lower their standards.
Geneviève Faubert
Geneviève does not build things because they are easy — she builds them because they should exist.
With a background in marketing, brand strategy, and digital platforms, she has spent her career designing systems that make better choices feel natural. Over the past few years, her work has focused almost entirely on sustainability — not as a trend, but as infrastructure.
She is the co-founder of Déjà Décor, where she designed the platform from the ground up: brand voice, seller and buyer experience, quality standards, and logistics flows — all with one goal in mind: making pre-owned furniture feel desirable, trustworthy, and worth choosing.
In parallel, Geneviève co-founded The New Clean, a science-driven skincare company currently in research and development. There, she works with researchers at the University of Sherbrooke to rethink formulations and packaging with the same rigor she applies to Déjà Décor: slower, more intentional, and built to last.
Her approach is hands-on, curious, and unapologetically different. Whether it is wearing clothes sewn by local artisans or challenging industry norms that no longer make sense, Geneviève believes sustainability only works when it is embedded into how things are built — not layered on after the fact.
Mélanie Kau
Mélanie brings decades of operational leadership, retail instinct, and governance experience to Déjà Décor.
An entrepreneur at heart, she has spent more than thirty years building and scaling businesses by staying relentlessly focused on the customer. As President of Mobilia, Canada’s largest independently owned contemporary furniture retailer, she led the company through years of growth, brand expansion, and operational excellence. She later guided Naturiste, a 67-store natural health retail chain, back to profitability — proof that strong values and strong business are not mutually exclusive.
Today, Mélanie is a partner at K2 Real Estate, developing and managing commercial and residential assets across Quebec and Ontario. She also serves on the boards of major public companies, including Alimentation Couche-Tard and Gildan Activewear, where she chairs governance and human capital committees.
Her experience brings discipline, clarity, and scale to Déjà Décor. She knows how to build systems that endure, how to govern growth responsibly, and how to turn good ideas into lasting businesses.
Why Déjà Décor Exists
Together, Geneviève and Mélanie are not trying to make second-hand “cool.”
They are making it normal.
Déjà Décor exists at the intersection of vision and execution — where circular ideas are backed by real operations, and sustainability is treated as a design problem worth solving properly.
Not louder.
Not faster.
Just better.
Have questions?
Totally fair. Déjà Décor is not another random marketplace, so you may be wondering how everything works before you jump in.
Sellers: What happens after I list? When do I get paid? Who sees my address?
Buyers: How does delivery work? What happens after I order? Who do I contact if I need help?
Good news: you are not expected to figure it out alone.
And yes, we are real humans. Founder-level humans, actually.
If you would like to talk through selling, buying, delivery, partnerships, estate furniture, designer inventory, or “I have a sofa and no idea what to do next,” we would be happy to set up a virtual call.
No pressure. No sales circus. Just furniture rescue, explained clearly.
Send us a message and we will gladly set up a virtual meeting.
