Write Listings That Sell

Playful cue to write better furniture listings for Déjà Décor

Because your furniture deserves more than “brown chair, decent condition.”

Your piece has personality — your listing should too. Whether it’s a sassy velvet armchair or a dining table that’s hosted more Sunday lasagnas than Nonna, a great description does three jobs: grabs attention, builds trust, and answers questions before they’re asked.

🛋️ 1) Start with a headline that stops the scroll

Formula: [Adjective] + [Item Type] + Wow factor

Examples

  • Chic Mid‑Century Walnut Dresser — Stunning Grain

  • Comfy Storage Sectional — Weekend‑Ready

  • Vintage Rattan Chair — Boho Vibes Included

  • Solid Maple Drop‑Leaf Table — Seats 6 in Seconds

  • Danish Teak Credenza — Original Finish, 1960s

Skip “Old table — $50.” You’re better than that.

🔍 2) Be honest, be bold

Do two things at once: highlight what’s special and own the flaws.

“Sleek black coffee table that carried many movie nights. Small corner chip (photo 6) — colour‑matched, barely noticeable.”

Honesty converts and reduces back‑and‑forth — and it’s right on brand for us: fun, bold, transparent.

📏 3) Include the details that matter

Buyers decide faster when the facts are clear:

  • Dimensions (always): width × depth × height; seat height for seating

  • Materials (solid wood / veneer type, leather/fabric weave, metal)

  • Brand / designer (if known)

  • Condition (choose one): Like new · Gently used · Loved with light wear · Needs love (priced accordingly)

  • Care or repairs disclosed (e.g., “Slides waxed; one leg re‑glued — see photo 7.”)

  • Home context (smoke‑free / pet‑friendly, if relevant)

📸 4) Photos that pull their weight

A great description can’t rescue blurry images. Shoot these:

  1. Front

  2. Both sides

  3. 3/4 angle

  4. Top surface

  5. Details (grain, joinery, labels)

  6. Back/underside

  7. Any wear (clear, close, and honest)

If you styled the scene: “Styled for photos — accessories not included.”
(Need camera pointers? See Snap, Sell, Succeed: Photography.)

🪑 5) Add personality (lightly)

This is Déjà Décor — have fun, stay helpful.

  • “This chair has seen more novels than Netflix — perfect for cozy corners.”

  • “Ready for a new family to witness dinner drama and dessert debates.”

Charm works when the facts are solid.

🤖 6) Use the AI Listing Helper in your Seller Portal

Speed up the first draft — you stay in control.

  1. Upload your photos

  2. Get AI‑suggested title, description, tags, and attributes

  3. Edit for truth & tone (keep it human)

  4. Set price (use comps + your judgement)

  5. Publish — we handle escrow, anonymous hand‑offs, and pro pickup/delivery.
All questions route through us; we’ll add requested close‑ups to the listing so everyone benefits. No buyer–seller messaging, ever.

🔒 7) Privacy notes (non‑negotiable)

  • Don’t include phone numbers, email, social handles, or location clues.

  • Remove mail, diplomas, faces, and street numbers from backgrounds.

  • We keep both sides private: escrow on every sale, anonymous hand‑offs, pro pickup & delivery. Second‑hand without second thoughts.
